Firefighters establish downed, charged powerlines near a fire that tore through an empty strip mall along Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks late Wednesday, Jan. 12., Los Angeles Fire Department officials said.

The greater warning blaze was reported at 10:48 p.g. at 15033 Ventura Blvd., west of Kester Avenue.  Get-go responders saw heavy smoke ascent from the edifice when they arrived, LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

A total of 75 firefighters tackled the "deeply seated" burn down, Stewart said. The construction'south roof crumbled as crews used hoses to spray h2o from a rubber distance.

Crews managed to prevent the burn from spreading to a edifice immediately to the westward. It took an hour and twenty minutes to put out the flames. Afterward, they remained on scene to set on hot spots and clear debris.

About 20 minutes after firefighters initially responded, LAFD officials reported that "charged, downed powerlines" were found north of the strip mall. It wasn't clear Thursday if they were the cause of the bonfire.

The building, vacant when it caught burn, in one case housed a tailoring shop, hair salon, nail salon, smoke shop and shoe repair shop. It was surrounded by chain-link fencing, and its doors and windows were covered with boards and graffiti in photos taken final Dec.

There were no injuries, and no neighboring structures were damaged, Stewart said.

Arson investigators are looking into the burn down, standard for a blaze of this size, Stewart said.
